Apple's Patent Application for the Spiral Screen
Apple, which has applied for 13 different patents for a 360-degree smartphone since 2013, also filed its latest patent application in this field last month. According to the application, there is a spiral glass screen on the front and back of the phone and the electronic hardware is inside this spiral glass. If this patent is applicable, users will be able to play games, watch videos in a 360-degree loop, and image the photos in a continuous loop around their iPhone. It is an object of curiosity whether this design, which will provide users with a wider and richer experience area, will be used in the models released from now on.
According to the patent that Apple filed on July 3, 2019 and the US Patent and Trademark Office published on October 24, 2019, there is a spiral-shaped glass screen on the front and back of the phone. The electronic hardware of the device is located inside this spiral glass.
It is not yet clear whether Apple will take place with this spiral-screen iPhone design in the foldable screen phone market, where Samsung entered with Galaxy Fold and Huawei with Mate X to enrich the screen experience.
However, Apple explains that in this design, it can allow up to five icons in each line of the screen; and also this means that users no longer need to scroll to find a specific application. Since the flexible spiral screen will completely cover the phone, if Apple goes this patent into production, all physical buttons on the upcoming new iPhones could become history.
