An information and document unit were opened by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TURKPATENT) in the Informatics Valley, the largest technology development zone in Turkey.
Fatih KACIR, Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology, stressed that the Technology Development Zone is a very valuable place in the journey of national technology, and that the information and document service that TURKPATENT will provide in the Technology Development Zone is very important. KACIR stated that Turkey, which had 54 thousand R & D employees in 2006, has built an ecosystem that has access to 172 thousand R & D employees in 2018.
As for the increase in patent applications, KACIR stated, "At the beginning of the 2000s, the number of annual patent applications made in all of Turkey was about 300. By 2018, this number has increased to over 7 thousand. This kind of acceleration is very rare in the world."
Indicating that they aim to increase this acceleration by continuing their operations on actively protecting intellectual and Intellectual Property Rights
, KACIR added, "In this sense, the information and document units, which continue to operate at 168 locations all over Turkey, will continue to provide services to our entrepreneurs, designers, and innovative individuals and institutions."
Habip ASAN, President of TURKPATENT, had this to say on the subject: “In order to better serve our citizens, industrialists and universities in a country with so many applications, we are establishing information and document units in our chambers of commerce and industry, our universities, and our development agencies. We will open an information and document unit in the Technology Development Zone, a subsidiary of TURKPATENT, and sign a cooperation protocol with the Technology Development Zone. We currently have these units in every province of Turkey, but not all of them are at the same level. The information and document unit that we will open here today is designed to be the most comprehensive unit in Turkey."
Serdar IBRAHIMCIOGLU, Director General of the Technology Development Zone, pointed out that the valley is home to 85 companies including TOGG, the domestic car company, that it is time to design the future in the Technology Development Zone, and added, "The Turkish Patent Office is essential to achieve our goal to design a future with a domestic and national vision, as well as ensures the protection of intellectual property. We believe that it is invaluable for the information and document unit of the Turkish Patent Office to come into service in the Technology Development Zone."
