EA-PPH Program Launches in 2025: A Milestone in Eurasian Patent Cooperation

From January 1, 2025, the Eurasian Patent Prosecution Highway (EA-PPH) program comes into force with the participation of the EAPO and four national patent offices of the states parties to the Eurasian Patent Convention: the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan (national offices), which signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Eurasian Patent Prosecution Highway on September 9, 2024. A distinctive feature of the EA-PPH program is that among the PPH programs known in the world, this is the first program between a regional office and patent offices of states that are all members of this regional patent organization. In this regard, in addition to the traditional tasks that are solved by the agencies participating in the PPH programs (reducing duplication of work in the field of patent search and examination, reducing the costs of agencies and applicants), the EA-PPH program is the basis for harmonizing approaches to issues of conducting substantive examination on the territory of an entire region and for exchanging best practices in conducting examination in the Eurasian space.
