Intellectual Property Department Resumes Acceptance of Annuity Payments for Patent

We refer to circular number 2/2024 previously issued by the Intellectual Property Rights Protection Department of the Qatari Ministry of Commerce and Industry (the Patent Office). This circular allowed an applicant to defer the payment of annuity fees after the third year, provided the patent application was still pending. The Patent Office has now reinstated the acceptance of annuity payments for all years, including for pending applications that have not been granted. Consequently, applicants are required to ensure that all outstanding annuity fees are paid promptly, irrespective of whether a decision on the application has been issued. Additionally, please note that the Ministry has confirmed that no refunds will be issued for incorrect or duplicate payments.
