Saudi Arabia Extends Protection Period for Industrial Designs from 10 to 15 Years

According to the amended Patents, Industrial Designs, Integrated Circuits, and Plant Varieties Law No. 197, issued by the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) on September 19, 2023, the duration of protection for industrial designs has been prolonged from ten (10) to fifteen (15) years. Consequently, owners of active designs filed in 2013 are required to settle their 11th annuity fees before May 23, 2024, in order to avail themselves of the extended protection period.
