Astringent Gel that Stops Bleeding in a Minute

Scientists from Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, have developed a gel that can stop bleeding in one minute. The gel was made from the natural polymer chitosan material obtained from the shell of crustaceans.

Project manager Mihail Gorşenin, director of Tektum company, stated that the gel is currently in the testing phase and said, “The gel binds to blood cells and coagulates it rapidly, while additional components accelerate this process significantly. For example, we managed to stop bleeding in laboratory animals in less than 30 seconds."

No Need to Wipe the Wound'

Most similar drugs stop bleeding in 5-7 minutes. Apart from this, unlike other drugs, the gel developed by Russian scientists dissolves in time, without the need to be wiped away from the wound.

Scientists are studying the possibility of using the drug not only for external incisions, but also for internal organ surgeries. Gorşenin said, "The drug does not need to be wiped, it can stay inside, it dissolves in a certain period of time, but it does not cause hardening that leads to the formation of cysts."

Will Be Available On Markets In A Year'

Made on the basis of the natural polymer chitosan obtained from the shell of crustaceans, the gel received positive reviews from health experts.
"Within a year, we plan to obtain the registration documents that allow to manufacture and sell the drug," said Gorşenin, adding that everything is ready for mass production.
