Toyota's Grand Investment in Artificial Intelligence

Japanese automotive company Toyota established a research company in Silicon Valley in the USA to invest $1 billion in artificial intelligence and robotic studies.

Founded under the name of "Toyota Research Institute" in Silicon Valley in northern California to conduct artificial intelligence and robotics studies, the company will invest $1 billion in 5 years.

President of Toyota Motor Akio Toyoda said in a statement that they will establish a research company with 200 employees near Stanford University in Palo Alto from January 2016.

For this purpose, Toyota, which brought Gill Pratt of the DARPA Robotics Challenge to lead the study, will recruit approximately 200 people, including high-level engineers from Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Pratt previously served as program director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency at the US Department of Defense. It was announced that the research institute that will be used to produce an automatic car will focus on technologies such as automatic brakes that can help drivers avoid accidents.

Reports indicate that it may take many years for fully automatic cars to be produced, although it is a popular subject and many companies, including Google, focus on the production of self-driving cars in Silicon Valley.
