Chinese scientists are reported to have developed a 5.13 billion megawatt laser beam (5.13 quadrillion watts).
According to the South China Morning Post, researchers at the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics have developed the most powerful laser beam ever with the potential to be used in many areas from nuclear physics to the high-tech weapon industry.
In the research published in the Science and Technology magazine "Optics Letters", it was stated that the beam received the title of the most powerful laser ever developed in the world owing to its power of 5.13 billion megawatts.
The researchers noted that they fired the laser beam in 30 femtoseconds, or 30 quadrillionths of 1 second.
