Fikri Işık, Minister of Science, Industry and Technology, stated that "Technology Transfer Platform" aims to bring together inventors and investors and is an important interface in the formation of the patent market, and said that "in the platform with 564 members, there have been 953 license transfers/handovers, 2 license transfers/takeovers, 1928 notices for inventions/designs for which the protection period expired."
Işık told Anadolu Agency (AA) that the economy faces intense competition due to globalization and rapid changes in technology. Pointing out the necessity to focus on R&D activities to be able to exist in a competitive environment and to achieve knowledge-based development, Işık stated that the commercialization of the products resulting from these activities by using intellectual property tools achieved great importance.
Explaining that there were recently planned activities to introduce intellectual property rights to the economy, Işık noted that in this context, in the areas of science, industry, technology and development strategies, especially in the field of commercialization, policies and tools have been started to be developed and implemented. Işık emphasized that the "Technology Transfer Platform", which was implemented as of February as the most concrete output of the works, aims to bring together inventors and investors and is an important interface in the formation of the patent market.
"The driving force is the individual, corporate initiatives"
Işık pointed out that the Technology Transfer Platform is a patent market where investors can find new inventions to produce by obtaining licenses, and where inventors can find visionary entrepreneurs that will allow them to realize and capitalize on their inventions. Underlining that the platform site has the potential to bring together many more inventors and investors, Işık made the following assessment:
"The website is very accessible and easy to use as it was designed with the advertisers in mind, they can easily post and update their posts when necessary. The Technology Transfer Platform website is very important for the economic and technological development of our country through the generation of local new ideas and the implementation of these ideas by local investors. We frequently bring to the agenda the support and facilities provided by our Ministry in terms of financial and legislative aspects in the production of innovations so that we can encourage and guide our young entrepreneurs to turn their new ideas into production and profit. What can be done by the state is limited, the private individual and corporate initiatives will be the main driving force."
Stressing that Turkey needs more success stories on the commercialization of inventions, Işık said that "The complexity of the processes of creation and production/implementation of new products and services as a result of the intellectual effort, the high risk of innovation and the rapid change of customer preferences force companies to change their innovation processes and make them more open. In this context, companies should move to acquire the ideas and technologies they need from other people and organizations, and at the same time sell or license those that are not used by them to other companies."
