R.T. Applications for "Design Turkey Industrial Design Awards", organized by the Ministry of Economy in cooperation with Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) and Industrial Designers' Society of Turkey, have started. Final application deadline for the competition, whose advantageous application deadline have been extended to August 31, is September 4, 2016!
Categories of award applications are classified in 13 sectors as: packaging, lighting, electronic devices, household devices, home and office equipment and accessories, public and commercial goods, furniture, sports, hobby, game and personal products, transportation and cargo vehicles, building components, capital goods and medical equipment. The products which are meant to apply for Design Turkey must have been produced and released between January 1, 2014 - June 30, 2016 with industrial methods; and the designers, producers, or trademark holders of the products must be a Turkish citizen. "Design Turkey Industrial Design Awards" include a category called "Conceptual Design Awards" in which the design projects that have not been included in the program are evaluated in order to support creative ideas that will lead the way to the industry in the future. The finalists who rank among the top three in industrial design competitions will be considered a direct applicant for the conceptual design category of Design Turkey for free this year.
This year, like any other year, the products that pass the pre-evaluation will be evaluated on sectoral basis and three categories which are "Good Design Award", "Superior Design Award", and "Conceptual Design Award" by an international jury that consist of over thirty design authorities. The products will be evaluated considering some criteria such as the innovation they bring, the distinctiveness they offer, their capability of meeting the users' needs, their functionality, and the aesthetic qualities they achieve. In the competition that is aimed at contributing to Turkey's branding process through design, the winning designs will guide the industrialists through the qualities of a good design, and the right design strategies that should be planned for the product development process. The winning designs will be introduced on both national and international platforms through exhibitions and publications.
Design Turkey award ceremony and exhibition will be held in Design Week Turkey as of this year! During "Design Week Turkey" that will be organized for the first time this year by Ministry of Economy and Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) between October 18-23, 2016, panels, conferences, and workshops about industrial design, fashion design, and visual communication design with the participation of world-famous designers, universities, design schools, industrialists, and academicians. The organization will be enriched with the exhibitions and fashion shows of the finalists of design contests held during the year, Turkish designs that have won awards in prestigious design competitions in the world and national/international project exhibitions of design centers and design offices. The event which will gather all shareholders operating in design fields under one roof will form an integral design ecosystem, including Design Turkey Award Ceremony and Exhibition.
