Students of Yildiz Technical University Won the Model Satellite Contest
According to the university's explanation, a competition similar to the Cansat model satellite competition, which is traditionally organized by the American Astronautical Society and American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in Texas annually, is held by TÜRKSAT for the first time.
At the Model Satellite Competition organized by TÜRKSAT for the first time this year, the satellite team IQRASAT under the YTÜ Alternative Energy Systems Club placed first in Turkey.
According to competition rules, the participants were supposed to design a Payload/Satellite that transmits the GPS coordinates, atmospheric heat and pressure, elevation, descent rate, impact force, and battery voltage to the ground station once in a second while the model satellites dropped from a certain altitude descend.
Among the competition rules were recording the image of the earth by the satellite and transmitting it to the ground while descending. At the end of the competition, which provided undergraduate and postgraduate students with the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge to practice, the members of the winning team IQRASAT were granted 2 thousand liras worth of gift cards.
After the competition, a visit was made to Lagari Hasan Çelebi Museum at TÜRKSAT's Gölbaşı Campus and questions regarding the space conditions, satellite design and satellite management were answered. Participants were given a certificate and a TÜRKSAT gift set.
YTÜ students winning the competition explained that they would focus their studies on satellites as well on as hydrogen and electric vehicles in the following years and that they would like to achieve more success in this field.
