Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TPE) was victorious at the 56th Assembly of the WIPO which was held in Geneva. During the meeting, TPE was unanimously approved to be assigned as the international research and examination authority. Talking about the decision made, the Chief Executive Officer of Destek Patent spoke as follows: "With the applications and ideas that the TPE has suggested, supported, and implemented so far, TPE is a precious institution that contributed a lot to the development of intellectual and Intellectual property rights, and seriously supported the progresses and change of Turkey. Having such an important role, the TPE has the potential to represent our homeland competently on an international scale as well."
Starting on March 15, 2016 with the application made to the WIPO, the TPE's process of becoming an international authority was concluded on October 6, 2016. After the meeting, the TPE was approved as the International Research and Examination authority. Within the framework of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), the TPE has obtained the authority to prepare research and examination reports which are valid in the signatory countries of the treaty.
Pointing out that the TPE has become an international authority and this development brought with a number of advantages, Yamankaradeniz, "The fact that the TPE, which is a dominant organization in its own field, has obtained an international-scale authority has contributed a lot to the prestige of our homeland. This situation brings indeed with financial contributions as well as the prestige. For example, from now on, the research and examination reports of the patent applications made by our citizens and companies resident in our country within the scope of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) will be prepared by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TPE). This will bring our country a revenue of hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, and a significant amount of time will be saved as the patent search and examination processes will accelerate. Our country is an important player in the field of patent research and examination and provides this service to other countries, which will result an inflow of foreign currency into our country. The transformation of a structure operating in the field of intellectual and Intellectual property rights into an institution that is regarded as an important actor in the global arena will set an example for all our public institutions. TPE is a regulatory agency that has adopted an active management style to broaden its scope of operations. It has realized its existing potential by making the right moves and taking the right steps. We, as the well-established Trademark and Patent Attorney Companies in this field, will always continue to stand by TPE and everyone who contributes to our country's economy and industry".
"It is important for the government, the business world, and the NGOs to unify their forces"
Elaborating on the developments in the fields of intellectual and Intellectual property rights, the Chief Executive Officer of Destek Patent Kemal Yamankaradeniz said, "Turkey acts as a producer in the fields of intellectual and Intellectual property rights. This is known all over the world. However, one of our weaknesses is our inability to protect these rights. On the other hand, our high level of awareness of the matter is one of our biggest advantages. The steps taken both by the state and with the support of the business world and NGOs are also indicative of this. Steps like putting the Patent Law on the Parliament agenda within the scope of the 2017-2019 Medium-Term Plan (MTP), broadening the scope of the law on R&D incentives, strengthening our country intellectually, and adopting policies in the economic realm that support these steps show our determination to reach our goals. Also, that NGOs operating in the intellectual and industrial realms fulfill their tasks perfectly, which both helps the government in the projects it is striving to realize and raises the awareness of and motivates the business world. In order for our country to benefit from this more, our businesspeople should also attach importance to R&D activities, focus on producing more value-added products, and make more patent applications. "The preservation of this union is essential for the interests of the country".
